1. Roy Oswalt, RHP: In his eleven year career he has compiled a record of 154-89 with a 3.20 ERA as a member of the Astros and Phillies. A three-time All-Star and two-time 20 game winner. Currently a member of the Phillies starting rotation. Drafted by the Astros in the 23rd round of the 1996 amateur draft. Traded to the Phillies at the end of July 2010 in exchange for Anthony Gose (OF), Jonathan Villar (SS), and J.A. Happ (LHP).
2. Brad Lidge, RHP: In his ten year career he has compiled a record of 26-29 with a 3.50 ERA and 223 saves as a member of the Astros and Phillies. A two-time All-Star. Currently a member of the Phillies bullpen. Drafted by the Astros in the 1st round (17th overall) of the 1998 amateur draft. Traded to the Phillies following the 2007 season in exchange for Mike Costanzo (3B), Michael Bourn (OF), and Geoff Geary (RHP).
3. Hunter Pence, OF: A two-time All-Star, Pence has 105 HR, 384 RBI and a .291 batting average over his 5 year career with the Astros and Phillies. Currently starting in right field for the Phillies. Drafted by the Astros in the 2nd round of the 2004 amateur draft. Traded to the Phillies at the end of July 2011 in exchange for Jarred Cosart (RHP), Jonathan Singleton (1B), Josh Zeid (RHP), and a player to be named later.
4. Bud Norris, RHP: In his three year career with the Astros he has posted a record of 20-20 with a 4.29 ERA. The 26 year old looks to be an important piece of the Astros starting rotation over the next few years, as the Astros are in full rebuild mode. Drafted by the Astros in the 6th round of the 2006 amateur draft.
5. Jordan Lyles, RHP: Currently in his rookie season he has posted a record of 1-6 with a 4.36 ERA. Lyles is still 20 years old and gaining valuable experience at the Major League level and looks like a future ace if he stays healthy and can put all the pieces together. Drafted by the Astros as a supplemental 1st round pick (38th overall) in the 2008 amateur draft.
Five Misses
1. Max Sapp, C: The 23 year old last played a game in 2008 in Lo-A Lexington (South Atlantic). He was released by the Astros in May 2010. Had a series of injuries during his playing career, most notable he suffered from seizures as a result of meningitis that he contracted in December 2008. Drafted by the Astros in the 1st round (23rd overall) of the 2006 amateur draft.
2. Eli Iorg, OF: The 28 year old last played in 2009 with Triple-A Round Rock (Pacific Coast). Was unable to follow in the footsteps of his father Garth and uncle Dane who both played in the Majors. Drafted by the Astros as a supplemental 1st round pick (38th overall) in the 2005 amateur draft.
3. Wilfredo Rodriguez, LHP: Pitched in two games (3.0 IP) in 2001 as a 22 year old and appeared to have a bright future. Unfortunately those where the only games he would ever play in the Majors. Last pitched in independent ball in 2006 with San Angelo (United League). Signed by the Astros in 1995 out of Venezuela.
4. Robert Stiehl, RHP: He lasted pitched in 2007 for Double-A Corpus Christi (Texas). Drafted by the Astros in the 1st round (27th overall) of the 2000 amateur draft.
5. Hector Gimenez, C: He has played in 6 games in the Majors with the Astros and Dodgers. Has a career batting average of .111 in 9 AB. He currently is on the disabled list at Double-A Chattanooga (Southern) in the Dodgers organization. Signed by the Astros in 1999 out of Venezuela.

1. John Buck, C, Florida Marlins: In eight year career he has hit 101 HR, 364 RBI and has a .241 batting average as a member of the Royals, Blue Jays, and Marlins. He was a member of the 2010 American League All-Star team. Traded by the Astros to the Royals in July 2004 as part of a three team trade that landed the Astros Carlos Beltran (CF). Drafted by the Astros in the 7th round of the 1998 amateur draft.
2. Michael Bourn, OF, Atlanta Braves: Came to the Astros from the Phillies following the 2007 as part of package for Brad Lidge (RHP). Played in 541 games with the Astros hitting .271 with 11 HR, 134 RBI and 193 stolen bases. He was a member of the 2010 National League All-Star team. Traded to the Braves in July 2011 in exchange for Brett Oberholtzer (LHP), Juan Abreu (RHP), Paul Clemens (RHP), and Jordan Schafer (OF). Drafted by the Phillies in the 4th round of the 2003 amateur draft.
3. Ben Zobrist, OF, Tampa Bay Rays: In his six year career he has hit .258 with 67 HR and 287 RBI in 557 games with the Rays. A member of the 2009 American League All-Star team. Traded to Tampa Bay in July 2006 along with Mitch Talbot (RHP) in exchange for Aubrey Huff (1B/OF). Drafted by the Astros in the 6th round of the 2004 amateur draft.
4. Scott Linebrink, RHP, Atlanta Braves: In his twelve year career he has compiled a record of 42-29 with a 3.46 ERA and 8 saves in 645 innings of work as a member of the Giants, Astros, Padres, Brewers, White Sox, and Braves. Was traded to the Astros in July 2000 in exchange for Doug Henry (RHP). Claimed off waivers by the Padres from the Astros in May 2003. Drafted by the Giants in the 2nd round of the 1997 amateur draft.
5. Chad Qualls, RHP, San Diego Padres: In his eight year career he has compiled a record of 37-31 with a 3.75 ERA and 51 saves. Traded by the Astros to the Diamondbacks in December 2007 along with Chris Burke (SS/2B), Juan Gutierrez (RHP) in exchange for Jose Valverde (RHP). Drafted by the Astros in the 2nd round of the 2000 amateur draft.
Fun Fact
In 1989 the Astros where the first team to set up a modern day academy in Venezuela, signing future major league talent such as Bobby Abreu (OF), Raul Chavez (C), Richard Hidalgo (OF), Carlos Guillen (IF), Melvin Mora (IF), Freddy Garcia (RHP), and Johan Santana (LHP). The man behind the idea was Andres Reiner who is currently working for the Tampa Bay Rays as a special assistant to baseball operations.
