Farm System Rankings: #24 New York Mets

From 2001 until 2011, the New York Mets had 82 of the 173 players examined (47.40%) play at least one game at the Major League level. The Mets saw 62 players (75.61%) play for them while the other 20 spent time with one of the other thirty MLB clubs.

1.      Jose Reyes, SS: The 28 year old has spent nine seasons in the majors as a member of the Mets. His career batting average is .291 with 79 HR, 416 RBI, and 365 stolen bases. Reyes is a four-time All-Star and winner of the 2006 National League Silver Slugger award at SS. Signed by the Mets as an amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic in 1999.
2.      David Wright, 3B: The 28 year old has spent eight seasons in the majors as a member of the Mets. His career batting average is .301 with 179 HR, 704 RBI, and 148 stolen bases. Wright is a five-time All-Star, two-time Gold Glove award winner, and two-time Silver Slugger award winner. Drafted by the Mets in the supplemental 1st round (38th overall) of the 2001 amateur draft.
3.      Mike Pelfrey, RHP: The 27 year old has spent six seasons in the majors with the Mets. His career record sits at 49-51 with a 4.36 ERA. Drafted by the Mets in the 1st round (9th overall) of the 2005 amateur draft.
4.      Jonathon Niese, LHP: The 24 year old has spent four seasons in the majors with the Mets. His career record is 22-22 with a 4.25 ERA. Drafted by the Mets in the 7th round of the 2005 amateur draft.
5.      Ike Davis, 1B: The 24 year old has spent two seasons in the majors as a member of the Mets. His career batting average is .271 with 26 HR and 96 RBI. His father Ron was a right-handed pitcher who played eleven years (1978-1988) in the majors as a member of the Yankees, Twins, Cubs, Dodgers, and Giants. Drafted by the Mets in the 1st round (18th overall) of the 2008 amateur draft. 
Five Misses
1.    Pat Strange, RHP: The now 30 year old pitched for the Mets in 11 games between the 2002-2003 seasons. He posted a 6.35 ERA over 17 innings during his time in the majors. He lasted pitched in 2004 with Triple-A Norfolk (International) in the Mets organization. Strange was considered the second best Mets prospect prior to the 2001 season. Drafted by the Mets in the 2nd round of the 1998 amateur draft.
2.    Alay Soler, RHP: The now 31 year old made 8 starts for the Mets during the 2006 season, posting a record of 2-3 with a 6.00 ERA.  The Cuban defector signed a three-year $2.8 million major league contract with the Mets in September 2004. He last pitched in independent ball with Newark (Atlantic) in 2009.
3.    Eddie Kunz, RHP: The 25 year old pitched in 4 games with the Mets during the 2008 season where he posted a 13.50 ERA in 2.2 innings of work. Currently pitching at Double-A San Antonio (Texas) in the San Diego organization. Traded by the Mets to the Padres in exchange for Allan Dykstra (1B) in March 2011. Drafted by the Mets in the supplemental 1st round (42nd overall) of the 2007 amateur draft.
4.    Matt Peterson, RHP: The now 29 year old spent ten seasons in the minors where his record was 63-55 with a 3.86 ERA. He last pitched in 2010 with Triple-A New Orleans (Pacific Coast League) in the Marlins system. Drafted by the Mets in the 2nd round of the 2000 amateur draft.
5.    Ambiorix Concepcion, OF: The now 29 year old spent nine seasons in the minors where he hit .263 with 65 HR, 438 RBI, and 183 stolen bases. He last played in independent ball with Edinburg (United). Signed by the Mets out of the Dominican Republic as an amateur free agent in 2000.

1.    Heath Bell, RHP, San Diego Padres: The 33 year old has spent eight seasons in the majors as a member of the Mets and Padres. The three-time All-Star and two-time National League Rolaids Relief winner has compiled a record of 27-24 with a 3.08 ERA and 125 saves. Traded by the Mets to the Padres in November 2006 along with Royce Ring (LHP) in exchange for Jon Adkins (RHP) and Ben Johnson (OF). Signed by the Mets as an undrafted free agent in 1998.
2.    Ty Wigginton, 3B, Colorado Rockies: The 22 year old has spent ten seasons in the majors as a member of the Mets, Pirates, Devil Rays, Astros, Orioles, and Rockies. His career batting average is .266 with 157 HR and 545 RBI. Traded by the Mets to the Pirates in a six-player trade that brought Kris Benson (RHP) to the Mets. Drafted by the Mets in the 17th round of the 1998 amateur draft.
3.    Philip Humber, RHP, Chicago White Sox: The 28 year old has spent six seasons in the majors as a member of the Mets, Twins, Royals, and White Sox. His career record is 10-9 with a 4.09 ERA. Traded by the Mets to the Twins as part of the Johan Santana (LHP) deal in February 2008. Drafted by the Mets in the 1st round (3rd overall) of the 2004 amateur draft.
4.    Matt Lindstrom, RHP, Colorado Rockies: The 31 year old has spent five seasons in the majors as a member of the Marlins, Astros, and Rockies. His career record is 12-14 with a 3.82 ERA and 45 saves. Traded by the Mets to the Marlins along with Henry Owens (RHP) in exchange for Adam Bostick (LHP) and Jason Vargas (LHP) in November 2006. Drafted by the Mets in the 10th round of the 2002 amateur draft.
5.    Mike Carp, 1B,Seattle Mariners: The 25 year old has spent three seasons in the majors with the Mariners. His career batting average is .303 with 7 HR and 31 RBI. Traded by the Mets to the Mariners as part of a three-team eleven player trade that also included the Indians in December 2008. Drafted by the Mets in the 9th round of the 2004 amateur draft.  
Fun Fact
General Manager Sandy Alderson was at the helm of the Oakland Athletics from 1983-1997 in which he was the the architect of four divison titles, three pennants and the 1989 World Series.
