Farm System Ranking: #12 Seattle Mariners

From 2001 until 2011, the Seattle Mariners had 82 of the 157 players examined (52.23%) play at least one game at the Major League level. The Mariners saw 69 players (84.15%) play for them while the other 13 spent time with one of the other thirty MLB clubs.

He was purchased from the Japanese League Orix Blue Wave in November 2000.
2.      Felix Hernandez, RHP: The 25 year old has spent seven seasons in the majors with the Mariners. The two-time All-Star and 2010 American League Cy Young Award winner has a career record of 85-67 with a 3.24 ERA. Signed by the Mariners as an amateur free agent out of Venezuela in July 2002.
3.      Michael Pineda, RHP: The 22 year old has spent one season in the majors as a member of the Mariners. A member of the 2011 American League All-Star team. He has a career record of 9-10 with a 3.74 ERA. Signed by the Mariners as an amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic in December 2005.
4.      Dustin Ackley, 2B: The 23 year old has spent one season in the majors with the Mariners. His career batting average is .273 with 6 HR and 36 RBI. Drafted by the Mariners in the 1st round (2nd overall) of the 2009 amateur draft.
5.      Michael Saunders, OF: The 24 year old has spent parts of three seasons in the majors with the Mariners. His career batting average is .196 with 12 HR and 45 RBI. Drafted by the Mariners in the 11th round  of the 2004 amateur draft

1.      Ryan Anderson, LHP: The 32 year old spent four seasons in the minors where he compiled a career record of 20-27 with a 4.04 ERA. Was listed as the top Mariners prospect from 1998-2002 by Baseball America who also named him the top pitching prospect in all of baseball three times. His two nicknames where “Space Needle” due to his tall and slim frame and “Little Unit” as he was compared to Randy Johnson. Had a torn rotator cuff in 2000 and torn labrum in 2002 which spelled the end of his career. He last pitched in 2005 in nine games in the Brewers organization in what resulted in a failed comeback attempt. Drafted by the Mariners in the 1st round (19th overall) of the 1997 amateur draft. He received a $2.175, 000 signing bonus from the Mariners.
2.      Ryan Christianson, C: The 30 year old spent nine seasons in the minor where he had a career batting average of .244 with 74 HR and 323 RBI. He last played in 2007 with Triple-A Memphis (Pacific Coast League) in the Cardinals organization. Drafted by the Mariners in the 1st round (11th overall) of the 1999 amateur draft.
3.      Jeff Heaverlo, RHP: The 33 year old spent eight seasons in the minors where he compiled a record of 48-38 with a 4.46 ERA. 4.      Michael Garciaparra, SS: The 28 year old spent nine seasons in the minors where he has a career batting average of .263 with 19 HR and 224 RBI. The younger brother of Nomar Garciaparra last played in 2010 with Double-A Corpus Christi (Texas League). Drafted by the Mariners in the supplemental 1st round (36th overall) of the 2001 amateur draft.
5.      Travis Blackley, LHP: The 28 year old played eight games in the majors over two seasons as a member of the Mariners and Giants. His career record is 1-3 with a 9.35 ERA. He last pitched in 2010 with Hi-A Stockton (California League) in the Athletics organization. Traded by the Mariner to the Giants in exchange for Jason Ellison (OF) in April 2007. Signed by the Mariners as an amateur free agent out of Australia in October 2000.

Traded by the Mariners to the Orioles along with Tony Butler (LHP), Kameron Mickolio (RHP), George Sherrill (LHP), and Chris Tillman (RHP) in exchange for Erik Bedard (LHP) in February 2008. Drafted by the Mariners in the supplemental 1st round (37th overall) of the 2003 amateur draft.
2.      Shin-Soo Choo, OF, Cleveland Indians: The 29 year old has spent seven seasons in the majors as a member of the Mariners and Indians. His career batting average is .291 with 67 HR and 306 RBI. Traded by the Mariners to the Indians along with Shawn Nottingham (LHP) in exchange for Ben Broussard (1B) in July 2006. Signed by the Mariners as an amateur free agent out of South Korea in August 2000.
3.      Rafael Soriano, RHP, New York Yankees: The 31 year old has spent ten seasons in the majors as a member of the Mariners, Braves, Rays, and Yankees. A member of the 2010 American League All-Star Team and 2010 AL Rolaids Relief winner. He has a career record of 13-23 with a 2.86 ERA and 90 saves. Traded by the Mariners to the Braves in exchange for Horacio Ramirez (LHP) in December 2006.
4.      Asdrubal Cabrera, SS, Cleveland Indians: The 25 year old has spent five seasons in the majors as a member of the Indians. A member of the 2011 American League All-Star team. His career batting average is .281 with 43 HR and 92 RBI. Traded by the Mariners to the Indians in exchange for Eduardo Perez (1B) in June 2006. 5.      Brandon Morrow, RHP, Toronto Blue Jays: The 27 year old has spent five seasons in the majors as a member of the Mariners and Blue Jays.
