The player I remember most from that team would have to be switch hitting infielder Mark Bellhorn who played in 87 games that season. The former 2nd round pick in the 1995 draft by the Athletics spend two seasons wearing a trapper uniform playing a total of 157 regular season games hitting .284 with 21 Home Runs and 90 RBIs. Bellhorn went on to play in 731 Major League games playing for the Red Sox, Cubs, Athletics, Padres, Rockies, Reds and Yankees. He hit .230 with 69 HR and 246 RBIs over the course of his career. Bellhorn was also a member of the 2004 World Champion Red Sox.
The most notable member of the 1998 squad would have to be third baseman Eric Chavez who spent 47 games at the hot corner hitting .325 with 11 HR and 40 RBI at the age the 20. Chavez was taken 10th overall in the 1996 draft my the Athletics and appeared in 1320 games, batting .267 with 230 HR, 787 RBIs, has won six Gold Gloves at 3rd (2001-2006) and the 2002 Silver Slugger.
The team was managed by Mike Quade who currently is at the helm of the Chicago Cubs after taking over for Lou Piniella with 37 games left in the 2010 Season.
