1999 Edmonton Trappers (65-74 Record) Affiliation: Anaheim Angels
The player most remembered from the 1999 edition would have to be catcher Bengie Molina after appearing in 65 games, hitting .286 with 7 HR and 41 RBIs. Molina who was an international free agent signing in 1993 by the Angels out of Puerto Rico is the oldest of the catching Molina clan (brother Jose is currently with the Blue Jays, with youngest Yadier a member of the Cardinals). Molina has played in 1362 MLB games has a combined .274 average with 144 dingers while driving in 711 runs over the course of his 13 seasons as a member of the Angels, Blue Jays, Giants and Rangers. He also has won two Gold Gloves behind the plate (2002, 2003).
Left-hander Jarrod Washburn made 11 starts posting a record of 1-5 with a 4.73 ERA for the Trappers in 1999 and would make another 5 starts with a record of 3-0 and a 3.52 ERA with the club the following season. Washburn a 2nd round pick of the Angels in 1995 has appeared in 312 games in the majors with a record of 107-109 with a 4.10 ERA during time with the Angels, Mariners, and Tigers over 12 seasons.
Fellow Lefty Scott Schoeneweis appeared in 9 games that year finishing the season with a 2-4 record and 7.64 ERA for the 1999 edition of the Trappers. In 2000 he made 1 start lasting 7 innings with a 0.00 ERA. Schoeneweis was a 3rd round pick of the Angels in 1996 and has appeared in 577 games in the big leagues with a record of 47-57 and a 5.01 ERA making stops with the Angels, White Sox, Blue Jays, Reds, Mets, Diamondbacks ,and Red Sox in his 12 year career.
