Farm System Ranking: #5 Florida (Miami) Marlins


From 2001 until 2011, the Florida Marlins had 88 of the 157 players examined (56.05%) play at least one game at the Major League level. The Marlins saw 72 players (81.82%) play for them while the other 16 spent time with one of the other thirty MLB clubs.

2.      Mike Stanton, OF: The 22 year old has spent two seasons in the majors as a member of the Marlins. His career batting average is .261 with 56 HR and 146 RBI. Drafted by the Marlins in the 2nd round of the 2007 amateur draft.
3.      Gaby Sanchez, 1B: The 28 year old has spent four seasons in the majors with the Marlins. A member of the 2011 National League All-Star Team. His career batting average is .269 with 40 HR and 167 RBI. Drafted by the Marlins in the 4th round of the 2005 amateur draft.
4.      Chris Coghlan, OF: The 26 year old has spent three seasons in the majors as a member of the Marlins. The 2009 National League Rookie of the Year. His career batting average is .283 with 19 HR and 97 RBI. Drafted by the Marlins in the supplemental 1st round (36th overall) of the 2006 amateur draft.
5.      Chris Volstad, RHP: The 25 year old has spent four seasons in the majors with the Marlins. His career record is 32-39 with a 4.59 ERA. Drafted by the Marlins in the 1st round (16th overall) of the 2005 amateur draft.

1.      Jeff Allison, RHP: The 27 year old has spent six seasons in the minors where he has compiled a career record of 31-38 with a 4.65 ERA. He missed three seasons due to substance abuse issues that included OxyContin and Heroin. He spent 2011 at Double-A Jacksonville (Southern) in the Marlins organization. Drafted by the Marlins in the 1st round (16th overall) of the 2003 amateur draft.
2.      Jason Stokes, 1B: The 29 year old has spent eight seasons in the minors where he has a career batting average of .274 with 96 HR and 337 RBI. He last played in 2010 in Independent Ball with the Grande Prairie AirHogs (American Association). Traded by the Marlins to the Athletics in exchange for John Baker (C) in March 2007. Drafted by the Marlins in the 2nd round of the 2000 amateur draft.
3.      Allen Baxter, RHP: The 28 year old spent five seasons in the minors where he compiled a career record of 3-17 with a 4.66 ERA. In last pitched in 2006 with Hi-A Jupiter (Florida State League). Drafted by the Marlins in the 3rd round of the 2001 amateur draft.
4.      Jacob Marceaux, RHP: The 27 year old has spent six seasons in the minors where he compiled a record of 14-29 with a 5.53 ERA. He last pitched in Independent Ball in 2010 split between three teams in three different leagues (York Revolution-Atlantic League), (Lake County Fielders-Northern League), and (Lincoln Saltdogs-American Association). Drafted by the Marlins in the 1st round (29th overall) of the 2005 amateur draft.
5.      Brett Sinkbeil, RHP: The 26 year old played in three games with the Marlins in 2010 where he posted a 13.50 ERA in 2 innings of work. He has spent six seasons in the minor leagues where he has posted a record of 21-32 with a 4.83 ERA. He spent the 2011 season between Hi-A Bradenton (Florida State League) and Double-A Altoona (Eastern League in the Pirates organization. He was released by the Marlins prior to the 2011 regular season. Drafted by the Marlins in the 1st round (19th overall) of the 2006 amateur draft.

Traded by the Marlins to the Rangers along with Will Smith (OF) and Ryan Snare (LHP) in exchange for Ugueth Urbina (RHP) in July 2003. Drafted by the Marlins in the 1st round (1st overall) of the 2000 amateur draft.
2.      Josh Beckett, RHP, Boston Red Sox: The 31 year old has spent eleven seasons in the majors as a member of the Marlins and Red Sox. The three-time All-Star has a career record of 125-81 with a 3.84 ERA. Traded by the Marlins to the Red Sox along with Mike Lowell (3B) and Guillermo Mota (RHP) in exchange for Jesus Delgado (RHP), Harvey Garcia (RHP), Hanley Ramirez (SS), and Anibal Sanchez (RHP) in November 2005. Drafted by the Marlins in the 1st round (2nd overall) of the 1999 amateur draft.
3.      Miguel Cabrera, 1B, Detroit Tigers: The 28 year old has spent nine seasons in the majors as a member of the Marlins and Tigers. The six-time All-Star has a career batting average of .317 with 277 HR and 984 RBI. Traded by the Marlins along with Dontrelle Willis (LHP) in exchange for Dallas Trahern (RHP), Burke Badenhop (RHP), Eulogio de la Cruz (RHP), Cameron Maybin (OF), Andrew Miller (LHP) and Mike Rabelo (C) in December 2007. Signed by the Marlins as an amateur free agent out of Venezuela in 1999.
4.      Josh Willingham, OF, Oakland Athletics: The 32 year old has spent eight seasons in the majors as a member of the Marlins, Nationals, and Athletics. His career batting average is .262 with 132 HR and 434 RBI. Traded by the Marlins to the Nationals along with Scott Olsen (LHP) in exchange for Jake Smolinski (3B), P.J. Dean (RHP), and Emilio Bonifacio (OF) in November 2008. Drafted by the Marlins in the 17th round of the 2000 amateur draft.
5.      Robert Andino, 2B, Baltimore Orioles: The 27 year old has spent seven seasons in the majors as a member of the Marlins and Orioles. His career batting average is .245 with 11 HR and 64 RBI. Traded by the Marlins to the Orioles in exchange for Hayden Penn (RHP) in April 2009. Drafted by the Marlins in the 2nd round of the 2002 amateur draft.

Fun Fact
The two World Series Championships that the Marlins have won (1997 & 2003) equal the Toronto Blue Jays (1992 & 1993) and New York Mets (1969 & 1986) for most among expansion teams.  The 1997 team became the fastest expansion team to win the World Series (at the time) doing so in their fifth season.
